26th of December
26th of December
On the 26th of December there is nowhere you need to be,
No need to rush around.
No need to check email.
Waking up to white noise,
A single car pushing down the highway,
Dormant joints warmly glued into their positions,
Layers of cotton,
Snow fallen lightly,
Sediments insulating my ears and nose from a cold dampness enveloping this room.
On the 26th of December,
Gray matter in the sky,
Reverse diffusion,
Vapors reverberating white noise,
Filling the city with calmness and tranquility.
You can sit in a parked car and listen,
No need to rush before a meter runs out,
The quiet soft and true,
Muffled by the hems and haws of passerbys,
Buses release their deep sighs,
Ginkgo leaves spill out of trees,
blanketing sidewalks from the 4:00 chill.
Muscles without tension,
Adrenaline hibernating in their secretory glands,
For another type of day.
But today is for rest,
For slumber,
For raising feet,
For snuggling with all types of furry things, on the couch.
