 Mythical creature

Orange flames flow from her head, brown dots bursting across her face,

Constellations tell this mythical creature’s past.

Her twisty, splashy, raucous ride down a 100 foot waterfall,

I think she lost her cowgirl hat and glasses on that trip, 

We all shouted hip, hip hooray as we watched her surfing the whitewash and roaring rapids at the base of the waterfall. 

A tamer of wild things: teenage boys and girls, granddaughters and sons, kittens, dogs, chicks, monkeys and rattlesnakes. The mythical creature has cures and lessons for all things that need to be settled down. Sometimes wild things bite back at her but their venom is no match for her antibody-rich blood.

The mythical creature has a geolocator device, we’re all being tracked, 

there’s no use trying to hide.

She intercepts teenage boys riding ATVs, 10 miles out in the backcountry

She catches teenage girls hitchhiking in front of their school.

It does not matter if you throw your cell phone into the ocean, she will track you down and make you come inside if it is getting dark outside.

Mythical creature keeps a calendar at her bedside. All of her children, grandchildren and children’s significant others will find a card in the mailbox on their birthday. 

Her magic potion is a vat of vitamin beans, slow cooking in a crock pot to greet her tribe after long journeys away from her. The first thing you do when you meet her is slurp up some warm power from her pot then crash onto the cozy couch in her hearth for some jubilant conversation and entertainment.

If you are lucky enough to meet up with the mythical creature in her desert battleground, she might take you on a speedy thrill ride on a quad, or a golf cart or a speed boat. Anything fast and furious with the mythical creature. But watch out for her flames catching too much wind as they can spread fast on the desert brush and light up the entire sky.

When the night winds down it's time to settle down for some mythical creature diversions. Everyone squish together on a couch. Today is mythical creature’s day so we will indulge her with Naked and Afraid, Cops Reloaded and Fox News. Sipping a decaff with a capful of Baileys, we cheer on our mythical creature! For she is the one who teaches us to love, love, love. And we do just that. Love you dearly, our mythical creature on your special day. Thank you Mom!
