On Marriage..

Zennen: “When we grow up, Finn and I are going to New York and getting married.”
Finn: “No, No, No! I do not want to get married! I am not going to get married, because, I am already married to Zennen!”
Zennen: “Awkward.”

Mr. Johnson

A teacher I remember who was truly engaging was my high school history teacher, Mr. Johnson. He was a stern fellow probably in his fifties, shiny bald head and six foot four. He was not super chipper or friendly to students, in fact he was slightly intimidating and did not share smiles readily. What was engaging about Mr. Johnson was that he was a magnificent story teller of the Russian Revolution, World War I and II. As a Vietnam Veteran (my understanding), he was sharing with us, stories that were perhaps close to his own experience as a soldier. When he told the stories to us he became part of the events that took place, at times rapping on desks with his cane and creating all of the necessary background explosions. He was truly passionate about the content being taught, and the detail he recalled of the wars was that of a expert historian. I respect Mr. Johnson because he took us (the students) seriously, in my high school the more common type of instruction entailed sitting at desks and filling out worksheets. That Mr. Johnson came alive for us each and every class made me excited about going to class, and I was disappointed when the clock reached the hour marking the time to switch classes. I admired and liked Mr. Johnson personally for his ability to entertain us, and reveal intricate fascinating details of this time in history.
